Sasha Whitaker Equine Training and The Sherbet Stud are looking to recruit our first employee. I am a coach who always seeks to empower my pupils and I aim to do the same for my first employee. Sherbet Stud and Sasha Whitaker Equine Training is a small training/competition yard and stud in Bramshall near Uttoxeter with 12 horses ranging from foals to 30years old! Due to the expansion of my coaching and the commitments of the breeding programme I am looking for a reliable person to help with our resident herd of horses, initially on a fixed contract with a view to becoming permanent.
The successful candidate will be:
kind and fair with the horses
friendly, professional, and reliable with a good work ethic
able to work without supervision
confident handling large fit competition horses
willing to learn how to handle youngstock
The role includes normal day to day yard activities, which includes but is not limited to mucking out, feeding, turning out, bringing in, tacking up and tack cleaning.
Desirable but not essential attributes include
BHS Stage 2 Foundation Groom qualification (or equivalent)
the ability to turn out horses (including plaiting) for competition to a high standard.
the ability to lunge fit or uneducated horses the willingness to assist in backing and riding on of youngsters
the ability to hack out large spooky competition horses
I can offer a fabulous working environment on a small family yard with some truly magical horses. Im keen to help develop the potential, confidence, and skills of the successful candidate. I have trained extensively with The Intelligent Horsemanship Society and their training ethos forms the mainstay of my handling and training techniques, in which full training will be given. In addition, management, and correct care of the horse through formal training for the British Horse Society Grooms Pathway will be available (if desired). Whilst riding instruction at lower levels cannot be offered due to the nature of the horses, the opportunity to hack the established horses and be involved with backing and riding on of youngsters could be offered to a competent rider with a good seat. Unfortunately, we cannot take staff horses, or offer accommodation.
Approximately 15 hours a week (to suit the successful candidate) Age related National Minimum Wage. This role requires working on Sundays but working hours and other working days are flexible. The role could be built around other home commitments. Some flexibility is required to cover times when I am off the yard for extended periods. Unless the successful candidate expressly wishes to be self employed this role will initially be offered on a 3-month fixed term part time contract with 28 days annual leave (pro rata) with a view to the position becoming permanent.
