GROOMS JOBS BOARD

Looking for an apprentice to learn all about  yard management on a private eventing and livery yard, with the opportunity to have riding opportunites. We are looking for a team player with a firm and fair attitude to horse handling. We have excellent facilities here and an excellent opportunity to learn and experience new things. Duties to include:

• Mucking out (pellet bedding very easy to muck out but must be done properly
•  Turning out/bringing in (one horse at a time ONLY) 
• Tack cleaning (daily)
• Tacking up (I shall teach you how to put on a bridle correctly and how to put on a headcollar so that you keep control of the horse and insist that you do both of these correctly) 
• Feeding (putting provided feed bowls in to stables I shall teach you about feeding but make up the feeds myself) 
• Filling hay nets (for lorry only hay racks in stables) 
• Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming (I shall teach you these but ONLY I pull/tidy their manes and tails. You will plait the horses manes under supervision)
•  Bathing (under supervision) 
• Rug changing (I shall teach you the CORRECT way to rug up very important for the safety of the horse)
• Schooling (I have an accomplished rider, so no schooling will be wanted initially. However, if you are sufficiently accomplished there might be some opportunity to ride my horses)
•  Riding (As above. There is the opportunity to ride a couple of safe horses belonging to one of my clients)
•  First aid (If you do not have this qualification I shall pay for you to go on a recognised course)
• Exercising horses from the ground (lunging, horse walker, long reining, pessoa training etc.) (I NEVER use a pessoa- the worst torture ever devised for horses! - you will learn to use the automatic horse walker, and lunging)
• Holding for vet/farrier/dentist (mostly not needed as I train my horses to be cooperative and I shall expect you to maintain their level of manners and respect, but I shall teach you to trot up a horse. You must NEVER abuse a horse)
