5 minutes at Badminton with....Rachel

The BGA caught five minutes with Rachel Moran, groom to the popular Ben Hobday. (picture courtesy of Event Through a Lens)

How long have you worked for Ben for?

I've worked for Ben for four years and managed the yard throughout his illness with a team of 20 horses.

How does Badminton compare to other events?

This is my first Badminton and it's so different to any other event. The special stables, the security and everyone is very serious. There are no big parties in the lorry park! To be able to graze in front of the house is very special. It is the pinnacle of any career.

The build up was the same as any other event, Mulry came back from the owner clipped and walk work done so that he and Ben could build their fitness together.

Do you enjoy the attention working for Ben?

Ben enjoys the social media side, I prefer to stay out of the limelight and I'm happy that Ben gets all of the attention!

Do you have a favourite horse?

No, I treat them all the same but Mr Mulry is very special and sparkly with no cob in his brain at all!

How did you find out about the BGA?

I joined after a talk at Bishop Burton College. I am covered by the BGA's personal accident insurance as it's such a risky job working with such big powerful horses - have you seen the size of Mulry's feet?!
