BGA is 9 years old !

Over the last nine years the BGA has achieved a huge amount, so to celebrate we take a quick look back at it some of its more recent achievements.

2016 (so far!)

- Groom Clean is launched and all grooms on the World Class Performance programme gain their antidoping certificate 

- Three new Board Director members are appointed

- March and April see a new high on membership figures for both re-joins and new members (thank you!)

- BGA goes viral on social media again with  **Beware of becoming a groom** with a reach of 397,000

 

2015 

- Chris Hewlett is appointed Chair of the BGA

-  A updated 'new' website is launched

-  All BGA loyal sponsors renewed

-  In February BGA has the best membership month ever recorded (thank you guys)

-   BGA and Horsescotland re-form their partnership to tackle employment in Scotland

-   Prominent at the National Equine Forum, an invaluable platform for getting our voice as grooms heard

-   The BGA are invited to be part of the BEF Groom for Gold days

-   ABRS and BGA join forces to support the Employers Zone

-   Beware of Dating a Groom went viral with over 117,000 people reached on facebook alone (and being made aware of the BGA)

 

2014 

-    BGA Job Board gets a record number of hits per day and remains one of the most visited pages

-    Launch of the new website and the Employers Handbook become electronic and improved to create the ‘Employers Zone’

-    BGA joined forces with KBIS to allow monthly payments on personal accident policies 

-    BGA Travel insurance was launched and became an immediate hit

-    A new board of Directors was formed

-    The Grooms survey was created, and in early 2014 the results shocked the equestrian community

 

The things listed above are just the tip of the very large iceberg of the behind the scenes things that happen at the BGA. 

Prior to 2014 other notable achievements include the launch of the freelance section on the website, our improved merchandise range, the introduction of the Equine Skills CV and being a member body of the BEF.

What the personal accident policy covers you for:

  • Whilst at work
  • All stable duties – mucking out, grooming, washing off, turning out
  • Clipping
  • Riding – including hacking and jumping
  • Hunting
  • Lunging
  • Breaking in
  • Holding horse for a vet and other procedures
  • Travelling horses both in the UK and abroad
  • Competing in line with your job including: jumping, dressage, eventing
  • Injuries that may happen to you whilst you are teaching - but you must also be grooming as part of your duties and not be a sole instructor

What the personal accident policy doesn’t cover you for:

  • Riding in a race, point to point or team chase
  • Stunt Riding
  • Accidents occurring whilst travelling to and from work
  • Riding and competing your own horse (but you can upgrade when applying for membership to include this)
  • Public Liability – this is a separate insurance policy - the Freelance Groom Liability Insurance
  • Care Custody and Control – this is a separate policy - the Freelance Groom Liability Insurance
