A GROOMS LIFE BLOG

I'm writing this sitting in the plane!

We are on the countdown to the FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon, USA and in the third of his WEG blogs #supergroom BGA member and Ambassador Alan Davies is well on his way.

It’s Tuesday and the loading procedure started at 6.30am.

I walked the horses early while it was peaceful and then bandaged and booted them ready for loading.

The guys from Pedens are very organised and made a plan of what horses are to go in which crates. They then made a detailed plan of the order that we load the crates, and how they go onto the plane.

We have mainly dressage horses on this flight but we do also have some reining horses, who decided they didn't want to load so that held up proceedings a little.

The GB team were down to go on crates 15 and 19 which was great as it meant I could be there to load them all. First up was Freestyle, and she marched into the crate as I expected she would, I then got a Pedens assistant to hold her while I went back round to load Del. I thought he might be a little nervous as he is a little shy in his character but he was out to prove me wrong and towed me into the crate!

Neville and Dono loaded really well as expected, I am so proud of how they have all been coping with this big new experience. Freestyle and Del are loving me acting as their personal Air Steward!

They have both been eating and drinking well and have had lots of carrots and apples to keep them occupied and it also helps with hydration. They have had a mash lunch which I now seem to be wearing quite a lot of!

With them all loaded and settled hopefully landing will go well. Once we touch down we have a 45 minute truck ride before we go into quarantine. There's been a media 'lock down' during quarantine so I'll be back in touch as soon as I’m allowed back out!
