A GROOMS LIFE BLOG

A beautiful morning at WEG

Hi, I am Alan Davies, I am a BGA member and Ambassador and Team GBR groom to Charlotte and Carl. Here is my latest blog direct from the 2018 World Equestrian Games....

It was a beautiful morning yesterday, the sunrise was stunning and I was lucky to see it as Carl and Charlotte wanted to ride early so that Carl could be free to help Spencer warm up Neville. They are both competing on day 2 of the the team tests.

The atmosphere is really starting to change now as the competition has started and Del and Freestyle are both coping really well with the environment.

The stables are quite close to the warm up arenas and you can here the announcers from the barns , but they aren't phased at all , so I'm really pleased with them both.

They both worked well and Carl and Charlotte were really pleased with them. It struck me, watching them both work through the Grand Prix movements, the enormity of these next few days.....and I actually started to get butterflies in my stomach!

To think that just a year ago these two horses were doing Small Tour competitions , and now here they are about to represent their country, against the best in the world.

I always feel it is my job to keep things as normal and calm as possible for the horses in these situations, but I can't help but feel a little nervous inside .

It's going to be a big day today in the lives of these two special horses who Carl and Charlotte have trained from youngsters. I know they are going to try their best so I think I'm going to be excited and nervous in equal amounts when they enter the arena.

Fingers crossed !! Wish us luck.
