Trot up day!

TEAM WORK is a massive part of Team GBR.

I am so proud of this band of grooms we have here. I’ve known Steph Sharples and Claire James for many years and even though Lucy Scudamore has only been with us a short while she has fitted in and become a very important part of the team.

We have been arriving together in the morning so that the horses get fed at the same time and we are all helping each other out.

Although we’ve only been together for a couple of days there is already a fantastic team spirit and camaraderie.

Steph and I have been on many teams together and it is such a joy to work with her. Claire is a hugely respected freelancer and she is a complete professional. And Lucy, at the age of 22, is quickly becoming very accomplished at horse care at top level.

Trot up day is very much about the grooms. We had a very busy morning getting the horses polished and plaited ready for our trot up time of 11.30 am.

We had a practice at 8.00am and made sure the horses were all walked and loosened up. I still get an enormous amount of pride seeing the horses looking fantastic and showing off at the trot up.

I’m also immensely proud of all the work that all the grooms have put in to getting them to this stage.

All of the horses passed and in the afternoon each country had a time slot to ride in the main arena and get used to all the sights. All the Team GB horses worked beautifully and all the riders were happy so that was a great relief.

We’ve had a chance today to catch up with friends from other countries. It’s been lovely to see Vanessa who takes care of the horses for Edward Gal.

She is a great friend and another fantastic groom. Behind the scenes it’s like a huge family and all the jumping grooms are starting to arrive now so it’s really starting to feel like a championship!

Today is the Grand Prix so keep your fingers crossed for us!
