#supergroom BGA Ambassador Alan Davies, Team GBR groom to Charlotte Dujardin and Carl Hester, blogs from the FEI European Championships. An early start. The British stables were quite busy all morning as the final show jumpers were arriving (we are all stabled in the same tent), and although our two horses aren’t competing until Tuesday (today), there is still plenty to do. They get checked by the vet, farrier and Rachel the Physio gives them some attention to make sure they are feeling tip top all the time. And then it was time for the competition to begin! Claire has been traveling Dark Prince many years and had him looking fantastic. Gareth and Briolinca pulled off a personal best score of 76.35%, which was quite emotional for all concerned. I was so chuffed to be able to go to the ring and be Steph’s assistant. She has always been so supportive to me over the years when I’ve had two riders and horses at shows so it was great to be able to return the favour. Steph has nurtured Briolinca for many years. She is quite a princess in the stable and nothing is ever too much trouble for Steph to sort all her likes and dislikes. Steph and Gareth have planned her campaign meticulously for this moment, so it’s just wonderful to see her shine in the ring today. Their test put them in third place individually and Team GBR in silver medal position overnight. There wasn’t much time to celebrate as I need an early night as it’s a big day for Del and Freestyle today! Everyone was at the stables early. Gareth and Lottie wanted to have a last ride nice before their tests today, and Carl and Charlotte wanted to work their horses before the competition started so that they could help and watch their team mates.
Lottie and Dark Prince did a fantastic job and they coped really well with the pressure of their first senior team appearance achieving a score of 74.317%.

What the personal accident policy covers you for:
- Whilst at work
- All stable duties – mucking out, grooming, washing off, turning out
- Clipping
- Riding – including hacking and jumping
- Hunting
- Lunging
- Breaking in
- Holding horse for a vet and other procedures
- Travelling horses both in the UK and abroad
- Competing in line with your job including: jumping, dressage, eventing
- Injuries that may happen to you whilst you are teaching - but you must also be grooming as part of your duties and not be a sole instructor
What the personal accident policy doesn’t cover you for:
- Riding in a race, point to point or team chase
- Stunt Riding
- Accidents occurring whilst travelling to and from work
- Riding and competing your own horse (but you can upgrade when applying for membership to include this)
- Public Liability – this is a separate insurance policy - the Freelance Groom Liability Insurance
- Care Custody and Control – this is a separate policy - the Freelance Groom Liability Insurance
