#supergroom BGA Ambassador Alan Davies, Team GBR groom to Charlotte Dujardin and Carl Hester, blogs from the FEI European Championships. Elation and Devestation So today (Tuesday) turned out to be one of the most testing days of my career as a groom. This morning Del proved how much he has grown up lately and showed how he can cope with the pressure that being on a team can bring. He has coped so well with the big atmosphere and has made us all so proud. Yesterday afternoon, with huge pressure on them, because the team were hoping for a silver medal, Freestyle and Charlotte did a beautiful, harmonious test getting a huge score of 81.95%. There are no words to describe the devastation of being eliminated. Rules are rules however minor the incident. Freestyle is absolutely fine but it doesn’t help the feeling of devastation that anyone could think we don’t care for our horses to the utmost. The care that goes into getting these horses to this level is impeccable. The support I have had from the riders and grooms from the other nations has been unbelievable. Many showjumping grooms have come to find me because they have had similar experiences. And I have had people from all nations, some I don’t even know, coming to find me in the stables to offer support, which has meant the world to me. What the personal accident policy covers you for:
- Whilst at work
- All stable duties – mucking out, grooming, washing off, turning out
- Clipping
- Riding – including hacking and jumping
- Hunting
- Lunging
- Breaking in
- Holding horse for a vet and other procedures
- Travelling horses both in the UK and abroad
- Competing in line with your job including: jumping, dressage, eventing
- Injuries that may happen to you whilst you are teaching - but you must also be grooming as part of your duties and not be a sole instructor
What the personal accident policy doesn’t cover you for:
- Riding in a race, point to point or team chase
- Stunt Riding
- Accidents occurring whilst travelling to and from work
- Riding and competing your own horse (but you can upgrade when applying for membership to include this)
- Public Liability – this is a separate insurance policy - the Freelance Groom Liability Insurance
- Care Custody and Control – this is a separate policy - the Freelance Groom Liability Insurance
