WHY USE STRAWMAX

Straw pellets are attracting a growing reputation for combining the best attributes of both straw and wood pellets, but with none of their drawbacks.

Strawmax offers owners an economical new bedding option that scores very highly on all the priorities UK horse owners are looking for in an ideal equine bedding:

• Natural high quality
• Minimal dust
• Ultra absorbency
• Low waste
• Eco-sustainability

Straw pellets such as Strawmax, are usually made in the UK from locally harvested straw and offer the advantage of being fully traceable. The loose straw is chopped, crushed and dust extracted, and then pelletised under pressure at high temperatures that eradicate bacteria and spores. That’s a very important advantage over loose straw, which can contain high levels of dust and spores, and whose quality, availability and cost can vary widely.

The capacity of straw pellets to absorb moisture is one of the biggest attractions for owners. Market evidence suggests that straw pellets are even more absorbent than wood pellets, concentrating urine in small, localised patches which are easy to isolate and muck out with minimal waste. This means that the bed lasts longer with less replacement. It also means the muckheap is significantly smaller, and straw pellets that have been broken down and dampened with urine compost extremely quickly.

Increasingly important for today’s equine bedding buyers, straw pellets also offer a standard of sustainability that few if any other kinds of bedding can match – made from locally sourced, completely natural by-product straw, in a simple, low-energy production process, easily compostable and quickly recycled back to the soil.

In summary, straw pellets appear to give owners everything they want in a bedding. When used properly they create a healthy, hygienic bed for their horses with very little breathable dust and plenty of depth and volume for comfort and support.
