Bill Levett - A Dad's Perspective

We spoke to Bill Levett, international event rider and father of Joshua Levett who rode as an individual for Team GB at the recent Europeans in Montelibretti, Italy.

Joshua had just one pole to add to his dressage score, finishing 25th overall.

CONGRATULATIONS ON JOSHUA'S FANTASTIC RESULT IN ITALY - YOU MUST BE SO PROUD.

"Yes, we are really pleased for him. You ultimately just want them home safe, but also want them to handle themselves well and be proud.

Joshua loved the whole experience and is now out of Juniors so will be working hard to get onto Young Rider Teams."

WERE YOU ABLE TO JOIN JOSHUA IN MONTELIBRETTI?

"Yes, Jen and I went out on Wednesday – it was like a mini holiday. We were there to support the whole group of riders though so there were plenty of early starts and no time for a lie-in!"

DID YOU HELP JOSHUA WITH THE GROOMING?

"Not really, they had professional grooms there to help all of the riders, so we only helped when needed."

WHAT IS IT LIKE WAITING FOR THE PHONE CALL TO SAY YOUR SON HAS BEEN CHOSEN TO REPRESENT TEAM GB?

"Joshua is very laid back, but he was on edge waiting for the call. It came quite late in the day so you really get to see how much it means to them waiting."

DO YOU HAVE A TOP GROOMING TIP YOU CAN SHARE WITH THE BGA?

"I am sitting next to my groom Lucy now, she says it is important to keep calm.

From my perspective, I think you need to have passion and find someone who has the same mindset as you. You want your groom to be engaged plus know and care for your horses inside and out."

Great advice from Bill's #supergroom and BGA member Lucy Whitehead, keeping calm is so important!

Thank you to Bill for his time talking to the BGA, we wish Joshua and Bill lots of luck for next year!
