BGA & IGA - Working together

The British Grooms Association (BGA) and the International Grooms Association (IGA) are very pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the two bodies.

The BGA is the national professional association for grooms working in all sectors of the equestrian industry in the UK and Northern Ireland.

Founded in 2007 by a group of ex-grooms the BGA has since represented the interests of grooms throughout equestrianism in the UK.

In 2020, a survey of competition grooms showed a clear demand for an international membership association. Following this, the IGA was formed with the support of the FEI in April 2022 in order to represent FEI-level grooms working in international horse sport.

Working together

The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement demonstrates that the BGA and the IGA are cooperating with each other to achieve the same goal; to improve recognition and welfare for grooms at all levels of the equine industry.

Working together will benefit both associations by bringing different viewpoints and ideas to the table and enable us to speak with one voice.

It is important for these two organisations to work collaboratively in order to help us bring positive change throughout the industry. The experience gained from years of running the BGA is an invaluable help in launching the IGA; the global reach of the IGA will help us better highlight the vital role grooms play in equestrian sport.
Lucy Katan, Executive Director of the BGA and IGA

I’m delighted to hear that the BGA and IGA will be working with one another; by coordinating with each other we can shine a bright light on grooms, and make change in the industry where it is needed.
Founding Director of the IGA Alan Davies
