A GROOMS LIFE BLOG

BGA at Badminton

Badminton Horse Trials is over for another year, but we are not quite ready to close the doors on this amazing event just yet.

BGA Communications Manager, Juliet Hamlyn-Payne looks back at the last few days of excitement.

“Badminton Horse Trials has always been a fixture in my diary and this year was better than ever, as I celebrated my first anniversary working for the British Grooms Association.

I remember writing the Badminton blogs from the office last year, so to be meeting BGA members on the lawn over the weekend was quite special. I was delighted to meet so many of our members, thank you so much for giving your time so freely. Everyone spoke so highly of the BGA, it certainly was a proud day to be part of the British Grooms team.

It’s going to be a pleasure to write up the features for our members, so keep an eye on our blog and watch out for member articles in our Magazine. If you aren’t a BGA member yet, the British Grooms magazine is another reason you should join, check out the benefits of our membership, and don’t forget we offer discounted insurance too.

KBIS Competition Winner

It was a pleasure to meet with competition winner Sue Bickford, who won Badminton tickets in our giveaway, sponsored by KBIS. Sue was such a good sport as was Tallulah on the KBIS stand. Many thanks to KBIS for providing the tickets and for your ongoing support.

Grooms Award

Our Membership Manager Fi Boughton, had the pleasure of greeting the Stable Managers Grooms Award winner, Charlotte Holifield, together with the competition sponsor Treehouse Sporting Colours owner Theresa Morris.

This award celebrates the hard work and dedication of grooms, and the winner receives a bundle of products worth £1,500 from Treehouse Sporting Colours.

The Badminton Stable Managers look for the groom that does 'that little bit extra and shows great empathy with their charge as well as immaculate turnout'.

Charlotte, a long term BGA member, as well as an International Grooms Association - IGA member, is grooming at Badminton for the third time and yet she says each time is just as amazing;

“Badminton is so special because of the atmosphere and walking through the arches into the stables is such a WOW factor, it’s like ‘OMG you’re at Badminton!’

The officials really look after the grooms so well, there are even stewards at the finish to transport grooms back to the stables, normally we have to run to wherever we need to be, so it’s been really nice to have a car waiting for us.”

Grooming at Badminton is hard work at the best of times, let alone when you have two grey horses to keep clean in this weather, we take our hat off to Charlotte on keeping the boys looking immaculate all week.

Thanks once again to BGA Sponsor, Treehouse Sporting Colours, for sponsoring this award so generously!

BGA members, don't forget to use your discount code on purchases at www.treehouseonline.co.uk.

Whatever the weather

Even though the weather was unsettled and the mud around the shopping village made things interesting, Badminton certainly did not disappoint.

Thank you to all the Badminton staff and volunteers for running such a well organised event, and to all the grooms who worked so hard in challenging conditions throughout the week, none of this would be possible without your dedication. We salute you!”

Juliet
