Representing grooms at the highest levels

This week the British Grooms Association’s (BGA) Executive Director Lucy Katan has travelled to the FEI Sports Forum in Lausanne, Switzerland to represent grooms.

The FEI Sports Forum is a gathering of National Federations, Officials, show organisers – and since 2022, the BGA’s sister association the International Grooms Association (IGA).

This forum is the opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the direction of equestrian sport, this year with a focus on welfare and sustainability.

Both the BGA and IGA represent grooms at the highest levels to ensure matters that are important to grooms are heard and real change is delivered.

It is a big step forward for BGA and IGA members to have Lucy there as their representative at these discussions.

“I am proud to represent our members at the 2024 FEI Sports Forum. Over the past two days I have liaised with a number of National Federations, Show organisers and Rider Clubs - before the founding of the IGA there was no representative voice of grooms to be a part of these discussions.

I was also really pleased to hear grooms mentioned throughout the Forum in most presentations; I am told that prior to the launch of the IGA the grooms were barely mentioned as stakeholders. This is a real marker of change.” BGA and IGA Executive Director Lucy Katan.

The Forum concludes today, and we will soon be able to share with you some of the exciting plans for grooms that we have been able to discuss at the Forum.

The teams at the BGA and IGA, are incredibly proud to take part in this event and to have the opportunity to discuss important matters that affect the equestrian industry, as changes made for competition grooms impact on all grooms, whatever the discipline.

Play your part in delivering change by joining your professional association; spread the word and encourage your friends and colleagues to sign up.
