Jess Errington – BGA Member, IGA representative, and International Event Groom has been nominated in the Horse and Hound Awards for 2024. We spoke to Jess about her nomination.

How does it feel to be nominated for the award?

I feel very honoured. There are a lot of hard-working grooms out there and to be nominated and shortlisted makes me feel very lucky.

How do you think awards like this make a difference for grooms?

I think they make a massive difference. Over the last ten years, grooms have received much more recognition. People now realise that we can make a real career out of being a groom as it is now a ‘proper job’. These awards show people outside the equestrian world what a big part we play. Having such awards makes us feel special and shows how important grooms are.

Did you ever think when you started your career you would be doing what you are doing now?

No! Deep down I knew it was what I wanted. I just never thought I would be good enough. Selfishly, I didn’t want to work at a low level, I knew I wanted to work for a top-class rider, so I aimed high. I knew I just wanted to care for horses.

We wish Jess and all the other nominated grooms the best of luck.
