BGA Membership Approved by HMRC

We are pleased to announce that the BGA has been approved by the Commissioners for HM Revenue and Customs which means that you can now claim income tax relief on your BGA membership.

If you’re self-employed, you will have various running costs, also known as expenses. You can deduct some of these costs to work out your taxable profit as long as they’re allowable expenses.

The expenses must be ‘allowable’ which means that they are recognised by HMRC – of which your membership to the BGA is now one of them.

Lucy Katan, Chief Executive of the BGA said, “This is a good result for our members who are freelancers as it will save them some money. In addition it demonstrates that belonging to your professional association is must for all grooms.”

For more information on expenses visit www.gov.uk/expenses-if-youre-self-employed, or if you are a BGA member you can log in to the members area for more advice on being self employed.

Don’t forget that the BGA has teamed up with Butlers Accountancy to offer discounted accountancy and tax services for BGA members, giving an annual saving of 17% (at least £30) on your annual tax return and end of year accounts filing.
