Tragic fire takes grooms life

The participants and grooms of the 2019 Sunshine Tour are in shock after the tragic death of Spanish groom Vicente Quinta Sánchez in a lorry fire.

At around 6.30am, the lorry caught fire, and as of yet the cause is unknown.

Vicente was asleep inside the living area and sadly passed away.

Daniel Tarpey, International Competition Grooms Group Representative is in Jerez and said, "It is so terribly sad and tragic. All the grooms on the show are in shock and we send our condolences to Vicente’s family and friends. There will be a minutes silence tomorrow and we will all attend."

The British Grooms Association sends its condolonces to the family, friends and connections of Vicente at this terrible time.

This brings a question as to the safety of staying in the living area of horseboxes and is a reminder of the importance of battery checked regularly smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

If you have been affected by this please have a look at our Grooms Minds portal where we can support you at this difficult time.
