Lucy Seddon wins Karen Hughes Award

Congratulations to BGA member Lucy Seddon, winner of the 2019 ‘Karen Hughes Memorial Groom’ Award’, presented at the Magic Millions Festival of Eventing on Saturday 3rd August.

Lucy, groom of Dreamaway II ridden by Tom McEwen, exemplified a high level of horse care, presentation and total dedication to the wellbeing of her charge throughout the whole competition.

The Karen Hughes Memorial organisers said, “We would like to thank HRH The Princess Royal and the Magic Millions Festival of British Eventing for allowing us to join them at Gatcombe Park to present this award in Karen’s memory.

Thanks also go to The Mark Todd Collection and to Paul Morgan of Antarès Sellier France for kindly donating fantastic additional prizes for the winning groom."

BGA member Lucy Seddon also won the 2019 Haddon Training British Groom Award, presented earlier this year.

About the Karen Hughes Memorial Award

Karen Hughes dedicated her whole life to horses and Eventing. Working with the best in the world she groomed at multiple national and international competitions for over 25 years including five Olympic Games.

In 2004 Karen won the BEF Grooms Award.
Diagnosed with cancer in November 2011 Karen continued to work hard, and with her Doctors help, she was to able to continue her Olympic support grooming for Japan (London 2012). Karen was key to the preparation of Lochlan Glen for the USA at Rio 2016, the horse that won her last CCI*** at Blenheim in 2015.

Karen was a font of knowledge, offering help to all in need at competitions, she was always looking at new techniques and could be relied upon to always put the horse's health and wellbeing first before anything else.
