The Company
Eat, Sleep, Ride is a social enterprise and Community Interest Company providing horse riding lessons, recreational hacks, horse care and welfare.
Our project provides these opportunities for people living with ill health (including mental health & physical disabilities), drug and alcohol issues, who are isolated, vulnerable or those facing poverty and deprivation. These opportunities are providing our participants with therapeutic activities, skills development, increased confidence, improved wellbeing and most importantly; new friendships, as well as a sense of personal & professional responsibility.
The Position
Were looking for an Apprentice Instructor & Groom to work full-time (5 days a week). The role will include working regularly with young people, including those who may be vulnerable or living with ill health.
Stable Duties to include:
Mucking out
Turning out/bringing in horses
Tack cleaning
Tacking up
Feeding
Filling hay nets
Maintaining the fields
Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
Rug changing
Schooling
Riding
First aid
Exercising horses from the ground (lunging etc.)
Holding for vet/farrier/dentist
Teaching lessons where required

Qualification opportunities:
Modern Apprenticeship in Equine Studies & Horse Care with SRUC Oatfield Agricultural College leading to SVQ 5. This course is aimed at those who are new to the sector. A range of topics will be covered during the course including:
- cleaning, preparing and maintaining stables for horses
- providing feed and water to horses
- carrying out routine care
- monitoring the health and welfare of horses
- restraining horses using specified methods
- fitting and removing horse clothing
- plaiting
- trimming horses manes and trimming tails
In addition, British Horse Society Coaching, Riding and Care Exam. Association of British Riding Schools Riding and Stable Management Tests may be offered by Eat, Sleep, Ride CIC.
The ideal candidate would be hard working, reliable and enjoy being outdoors even when its wet and windy. Candidates will be expected to obtain a PVG and be happy to work with children and adults with Additional Support Needs. The role is a varied and interesting role at a busy riding stables.
Salary: £14,000 pa
Pay reviews will take place every 6 months based on performance.
