BGA member joins Big MIND Clipathon team

10 grooms. 12 hours. 100 horses to clip…

On November 3rd a group of 10 amazing grooms will come together to attempt to create a new world record by clipping 100 horses in 12 hours, all whilst raising money for charity.

An achievement in itself the reason behind the Big MIND Clipathon is more humbling. The Clipathon, which is led by groom Katy Barr, is to promote awareness of mental health issues and to raise money for the Mind – The Mental Health Charity.

On her justgiving page Katy states, “Depression, and many other mental illnesses are rife in the equine and agricultural industries, with suicide an all-time high in farming. No one should ever feel alone, never feel like they can’t talk their problems through or that there is no end to what’s happening to them.

This years’ Clipathon is in memory of Bradley John, a 14 year old boy who took his own life because he was being bullied for being different.”

BGA member Phill Snow is part of Katy’s team and says, “Katy did a clipathon last year and when she mentioned about doing it again this year it started to snowball into a group of 10 of us.

“On a personal level I am really saddened by how much you read on social media about people being in a situation where there feel so alone and no where to go to the point that they want to take their own lives. We can all help these people by reaching out, raising awareness and donating.”

If you’d like to follow the teams progress on social media have a look at The Big MIND Clipaton facebook page.
